PROFESSIONAL BIO AND WORK HISTORY

After earning a degree in landscape architecture in 2002, David served as project manager with McCullough Landscape Architecture in San Diego, California. During his time there, he worked with homeowners, architects, civil engineers, and developers on an array of projects. Highlights include Valley View Casino, San Diego City College,
and The Healing Garden at Naval Medical Center San Diego.

During a subsequent four year stint in Portland, Oregon, David’s focus shifted towards residential projects. His time in the Pacific Northwest included a six month apprenticeship with world-renowed Japanese garden design and
construction firm Kurisu International.
While learning the principles of Japanese landscaping, David was fortunate to work
directly alongside Mr. Hoichi Kurisu, which left a lasting impression.
Hoichi once said: “My dream is to create natural spaces that enrich lives…spaces that connect people and provide an opportunity to deepen our understanding -
not just of ecology, but of ourselves”.

In Northern California’s wine country, David worked as lead designer with a design/build residential landscape construction company, where he passionately turned clients’
dreams into reality. Sonoma clients often requested specific lifestyle enhancements
like bocce courts, hot tubs, custom fire features, and vegetable
gardens, all of which play into David’s strengths.

After a move to Austin, David contributed his talents at The Garden Design Studio, focusing on high-end residential projects. He then transitioned into the role of Residential Design Manager and then Principal/Senior Estimator with Strata Landscape, an established landscape company that primarily builds landscapes for residential towers, parks, commercial/mixed use projects, and multifamily developments. In that role, David gained valuable insight into detailing, engineering, drainage, horticulture, construction strategies, and building materials. His responsibilities included estimating, contract negotiation, vendor coordination, day-to-day project management, and ensuring quality control.

Throughout the years, David has distilled his vision for what landscape design means:
to create meaningful outdoor spaces that are
timeless, sustainable, and beautiful.
